Taylor board notes wastewater permit filing, orders lift-station safety work and approves land acquisition steps

Village of Taylor officials said the engineering firm SEH submitted the Wastewater Treatment Facility WPDES Individual Phosphorus Variance Application and the accompanying Phosphorus Management Plan to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on Feb. 28, the board heard at its March 10 meeting.
President Joe Kniseley told the board that several safety items at the village lift station are non-compliant and must be addressed this year. Kniseley identified chemical containment, an eye-wash station and splash curtains as the minimum work required now, noting larger lift station modifications are included in a sewer project planned to begin in 2026.
Adam Bush, who presented the maintenance report, said SEH also documented 11 manhole covers and that R&R Waste Systems repaired a frozen sewer line but was unable to televise the entire one-third of sewer lines this year. The board recorded that the street sweeper has a hydraulic leak that must be repaired before it is put back into service.
Separately, the board agreed to pursue acquiring additional land near the lift station after SEH identified that a portion of the lift station sits on a parcel owned by landowner Daryl Boe. President Kniseley said he, Bob Hulett and Adam Bush met with Boe and determined the village needs an additional 25 feet to the north and 25 feet to the west. Attorney Radcliffe was authorized to draft a quitclaim deed to effect the transfer so the site will be wholly owned by the village and remain eligible for grant opportunities tied to the lift station.
The board did not set a construction timetable at the meeting beyond noting the larger sewer project is planned for 2026. The maintenance report and the land-acquisition authorization were recorded as part of routine meeting business; no formal contract awards or construction bids were approved at the March 10 meeting.
