Grievance subcommittee votes to enter executive session on administrators’ grievances

The Fall River Public Schools grievance subcommittee voted July 7 to enter an executive session to discuss collective bargaining strategy and grievances involving administrators and employees represented by the Fall River Administrators Association.

"To discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining, including grievances relative to all administrators and employees represented by the Fall River Administrators Association," the Chair said when announcing the purpose of the executive session, citing a state statute in the motion. The motion to enter executive session was made by Ms. Riley and seconded by Mr. Moniz; the committee recorded an affirmative voice vote and then left for the closed session.

Before the motion, the Chair called the meeting to order and the Clerk called the roll; the transcript shows Mr. Agua, Mr. Moniz and Mr. Ryan as present. The Chair also read the required open-meeting and recording notice and announced that no members of the public had signed up for citizen input.

The executive session citation was read into the record as part of the motion; the public transcript records the statutory reference as "Mass General Law chapter 38, section 20 21A3." The subcommittee said it would reconvene after the closed session. When the meeting returned, Ms. Riley moved to adjourn, Ms. De Monas seconded, and members voted "Aye." The meeting then ended.

Because the committee entered executive session, no discussion of the grievances or bargaining strategy appears in the public record of this meeting.
