Malone board approves minutes, reports, hires a part-time highway worker and OKs $178,993.91 in bills

The board adopted Resolution 125-2025 approving the May 28, 2025 meeting minutes and Resolution 126-2025 approving reports including the Airport Manager, Budget-to-Actual, Supervisor’s Report, Justice Fisher, Code Office and Town Clerk for May (each resolution passed Ayes 5). By Resolution 127-2025, the board established an hourly salary of $18.50 for a part-time laborer in the Highway Department.
Highway Superintendent Michael Andrews told the board he received a large number of applications for the part-time position, many from young adults, and said he is particularly interested in hiring Ashton Avery, a BOCES program student; the board approved the hiring by voice vote under Resolution 129-2025 (Ayes 5). Andrews also praised his crew for working on days off to pour concrete and complete repairs and said Lower Park Street is expected to close again for several weeks to finish roadwork.
The board adopted Resolution 128-2025 authorizing Supervisor Stewart to sign MCF physicals for Jeremy Monica, Tom Soulia and Phillip White and to add them to the Franklin County Self-Insurance Plan (Ayes 5). By Resolution 130-2025 the board appointed Stanley Tulip as an alternate to the Board of Variance and Appeals (Ayes 5).
Finance action: the board reviewed Batch No. 1714 (Vouchers 425–458) and adopted Resolution 132-2025 to pay bills across multiple funds for a grand total of $178,993.91; vote was unanimous (Ayes 5). The largest single line item in the batch was the Consolidated Highway Capital Improvement Project at $114,063.63.
Supervisor Stewart briefly noted a PTSD proclamation recognizing June as PTSD Awareness Month. The meeting adjourned under Resolution 133-2025; the board scheduled its next regular meeting for June 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Town Offices, 27 Airport Road, Malone.
