Taylor library reports solid turnout, director to be away; village pledges $8,000 toward new batting cage

Library Director Barb Brueggen told the Village of Taylor board on Nov. 11 that the Taylor Museum/Library Open House on Oct. 26 drew about 50 visitors and a Halloween event on Oct. 31 saw approximately 65 children and 55 adults. Brueggen said Santa and Isaiah the Magician are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 1, with activities beginning after Sunday School around 11 a.m.

Brueggen said she will be away on Dec. 1 visiting family in Virginia and that Billie Koxlien will be in charge while she is gone. She also said the library's new software installation "is going well" and that she is continuing to add books for all ages. Brueggen said the hiring of a new library director is in progress and she will help as needed.

On parks and recreation business, Justin Beaman reported the cost for a new batting cage is about $10,700 versus the $8,000 figure previously circulated. Treasurer/Clerk Tammy Weisman noted the draft budget only accounted for $8,000; Beaman said he would tell BTYSA the village will contribute $8,000 and asked BTYSA to cover the difference.

Other community items reported included completion of roof repairs at the municipal building and completion of electrical work by Hammond Electric for Veterans Park holiday lighting, with Xcel Energy scheduled to finish underground service. The clerk said the Business District Christmas Lights Contest notice will be mailed and encouraged village participation.

The board recorded no public opposition at the meeting. Staff continue recruitment and event planning for the library and parks.
