Library director will step down from required training role; board to advertise for replacement

Barb Brueggen, the Village of Taylor library director, told trustees on Oct. 14 that she has decided not to continue with required trustee training, meaning the village will need a new library director as soon as possible. Brueggen said an ad will be placed in the newspaper and that applications must be submitted by Nov. 1, 2024; she added she will assist until a replacement is found.
Brueggen reported that Winding Rivers provided trustee training on Oct. 7 and that the library recently moved to new Winding Rivers software. While the software expanded digital access, Brueggen said the change has led to fewer patrons visiting the library in person and that lower usage numbers reduce the County reimbursement amounts used in the village’s 2025 budget planning. Tammy Weisman provided the county reimbursement amounts for the 2025 budget, calculated using 2023 usage, and noted the dollar amount decreased substantially.
Brueggen also highlighted upcoming events: a History Museum open house on Oct. 26 with the library open for a few hours and a Halloween event titled “Scary Dairy” (with sponsorship for string cheese and a prize drawing). She said the library has reserved the gym for Santa and a Magic Show on Sunday, Dec. 8 and thanked trustees and staff for operational support.
The board directed the clerk to advertise for the director position; trustees set an application deadline of Nov. 1 and Will review candidates following the closing date.
