Springfield highway crew staffing shifts; town plans to review grader replacement in budget

The board recorded the resignation of highway worker Cody Osgood. The board approved moving Sean Gaherty into the full-time highway position and indicated that Cody Patten will take a seasonal part-time role. Selectmen said the department is currently staffed and will consider longer-term hiring or equipment decisions as part of the 2025 budget process.
Resident Neal Huntoon reported that a Volvo technician recently inspected the town’s grader, performed repairs and determined it is functional. The town expects to consider trading the grader in during the spring to obtain a more suitable long-term replacement; board members noted funds exist in the Capital Improvement Plan to support purchase timing. Meeting minutes record a $30,000 allowance toward another grader if the unit remains in acceptable condition.
