Selectmen approve contingency spending to accept donated skate ramps from Sunapee

Ian Kirk, a member of the Sunapee Recreation Committee, told the Springfield Board of Selectmen on Aug. 26 that Sunapee plans to replace its skate park and can donate existing ramps in good condition to Springfield. He said the ramps carry a 30-year warranty and are roughly 12 years into that term and that Sunapee can forklift the ramps onto a flatbed and move them in one piece.
Kirk said the donated ramps would align with Springfield’s existing pad and “will sit beautifully on our existing pad,” adding the town could prop up ramp ends and refill with asphalt if the ramps settle over time. He described a plan for Sunapee volunteers to help spot and reinstall the equipment and named Tim Hayes as coordinating the move. Jen Roberts told the Board that Kevin Roberts would provide a flatbed trailer on Tuesday if available.
Selectman Steve Dzubak moved to authorize expenditure of funds to rent a trailer if Kevin Roberts could not provide one; Amy Lewis seconded. Poul Heilmann, Amy Lewis and Steve Dzubak voted in favor. The Board thanked Kirk for bringing the proposal and agreed the donation would expand Springfield’s usable skate facilities without capital-cost outlay for new ramps.
The ramps’ condition, warranty status and the logistics of the move will be confirmed before installation; town staff and volunteers discussed timing and coordination with Sunapee.
