Ravenel council approves resolution authorizing mayor to settle sewer dispute with Hollywood

The Ravenel Town Council on April 29 approved Resolution 2025-03 authorizing the mayor to conclude settlement talks with the neighboring Town of Hollywood over sewer-line matters. The resolution was moved, seconded and taken to a roll-call vote that the presiding mayor declared passed.

Mayor (presiding) told the council that he, the Mayor Pro Tem and Councilmember Wood met with Hollywood and agreed on a settlement check "a little over $11,000 if memory serves me right," which he described as a fair and reasonable amount. He said the settlement paperwork is the reason for the resolution, so the mayor can finalize the details.

The Mayor said the next step is an engineering meeting with Charleston Water Systems and the towns' engineers to review numbers, pressures and installation details for work to remove and reroute sewer line segments associated with pump 7. He said that review is intended as "a final look" before putting the project out for bid; the meeting was scheduled for next Wednesday.

The resolution does not change the underlying grant that will fund the pump-7 work, according to the Mayor, and council discussion on the item was limited; no amendments were offered during the meeting. The Mayor indicated that town attorneys are involved in finalizing paperwork and that, if disputes persist in other venues (such as zoning appeals), those matters would follow separate legal paths.

The council's action authorizes the mayor to execute settlement documents; the resolution was recorded as Resolution 2025-03 in the meeting materials. The council also moved other business forward at the same meeting, including administrative updates and planning items related to the Ellington site.

The meeting adjourned after the council completed its items; the town will proceed with the engineering review and bidding process for the sewer project as described.
