Town staff briefed the mayor and council on a county‑funded rain‑garden program intended to mitigate residential flooding and improve water quality.
Peaks said the program is part of the town’s broader stormwater strategy and resulted from neighborhood screening and soil infiltration testing. Pannoni’s team completed engineer drawings, planting layout and a cost estimate. Of ten initially identified sites, six passed screening (soil infiltration, utility conflicts, right-of-way constraints and tree preservation) and were selected for implementation along priority corridors including 48th Avenue, Taylor Road and Somerset Road.
The CIP for this project is $149,320; the county grant portion for the project is $69,540 and the approved town match is $79,780 (carried in the FY26 budget). Staff reported remaining installation funds after engineering are expected to cover construction; cost proposals are under review and staff will seek authorization for a task-order contract at the Feb. legislative meeting with expected spring implementation.
Council members asked whether adjacent property owners would be notified; staff confirmed notice will be provided and plans/materials will be posted on the town website. Staff said sites are within the town right-of-way (tree-box areas) and that they will coordinate outreach prior to construction.
