Thorp council accepts resignation notice, creates library reserve, approves CUP and renews Hydro Corp contract

At its Jan. 13 meeting the Thorp City Council recorded several routine and personnel items, including a submitted resignation, a new library reserve and approvals of a conditional use permit and an annual contract.

A resignation letter from Brent Leech, the Public Works Director, was submitted and noted in the minutes; the record shows the letter was submitted but does not document a formal acceptance vote in these minutes. The Library Board requested a Library Reserve Account; the council approved budgeting $5,000 for that account for future maintenance (motion by Alderperson Rosemeyer; second by Alderperson Lawcewicz; vote 4–0).

The council approved the Planning Commission’s recommendation to grant a Conditional Use Permit for Matthew and Ashley Palmer with five conditions attached (motion Rosemeyer; second Lawcewicz; vote 4–0). The council also renewed the Hydro Corp contract for Cross Connection Control (required by the Department of Natural Resources) for another year at the stated terms: residential cost $8,135.40 and commercial cost $5,784.00 (motion Lawcewicz; second Korn; vote 4–0).

Police Chief Schneider provided the monthly police report and outlined three proposed ordinances for future consideration: regulation of semi-tractor idling on private property to address noise; an ordinance addressing misuse of 911 calls (the city attorney is preparing text); and an ordinance mirroring a Clark County Sheriff’s Office/Clark County Health Department action to restrict sale of certain THC products to persons under 21. The minutes show these were presented for information and drafting; no ordinance votes were recorded on Jan. 13.

The meeting closed with announcements including the Annual Chamber meeting scheduled for Wednesday and adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
