Board renews Coastal Horizons agreement to continue school mental-health services

The Brunswick County Board of Education voted unanimously on July 7 to renew its memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Coastal Horizons to continue mental-health services for students and families.
Miss Lloyd introduced Coastal Horizons’ annual update and said the district has partnered with the organization for nearly 20 years. Christina Clemons, identified herself as program director for the Brunswick Child and Adolescent office and described the ART program (Aggression Replacement Training): a free, 10-week intervention for middle- and high-school students that includes anger management, social skills and moral reasoning components.
Clemons said referrals come from school administration, counselors, parents and others; Coastal Horizons reported about 43 students completed the program in one year and about 52 completed it in the most recent year. District staff told the board there were no recommended changes to the MOA.
Miss Smith moved to approve the MOA and Mister Barger seconded; the board approved the renewal with aye votes. The MOA renewal will allow Coastal Horizons to continue providing the described services under the existing agreement.
