Brunswick County Schools reports strong administrative review, 360,000 summer meals and continued CEP participation

Amer Smith, director of child nutrition for Brunswick County Schools, told the board the department completed an administrative review with mostly positive findings and that corrective actions were addressed promptly.
"We demonstrated strong financial and operational stewardship," Smith said, describing the review as confirmation that the department complies with USDA regulations and protects reimbursement funding. Smith and staff credited the board’s support for the district’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which allows eligible schools to offer free breakfast and lunch without household meal applications.
Child Nutrition staff said CEP increases participation, reduces stigma and simplifies meal service. The department reported that each school day it provides meals to approximately 80% of the district’s students and that as of June 1 the summer meal program had fed more than 360,000 meals to children in the community.
Smith recognized staff achievements: multiple schools earned Golden and Platinum sanitation awards, Nancy Mintz was named statewide manager of the year by the School Nutrition Association, Amber Marco received a distinguished service award and Jessica Bracha served on state committees.
Staff invited board members to volunteer with the summer meals program and noted summer feeding locations (for example: Town Creek Middle). The presentation closed with praise for the nutrition team and a statement that the program’s success reflects district investment and community partnership.
