Resident questions MS4 changes as Leacock supervisors authorize PennDOT safety improvements

Chair Mike Sensenig opened public comment at the June 15 meeting for the township’s revised MS4 Pollutant Reduction plan after the board reached the appropriate agenda item. One resident asked for an explanation of the plan and its implications.
Township Manager Chris Slaymaker explained that the projects are required by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to address pollutants entering local streams and that the township has added work with the Little Blue Green Corridor to the plan. "This is required by DEP to complete so many projects that end up in our streams," Slaymaker said, and he noted the plan materials are posted on the township website. Slaymaker emphasized that any projects the township approves will carry ongoing maintenance responsibilities.
Separately, Supervisor Carl Smucker moved to authorize an agreement with PennDOT for safety improvements at the intersection of North New Holland Road and Peters Road; Supervisor James Donovan seconded and the board approved the motion. Meeting minutes note the board understands the township will need to maintain the improvements after construction.
No votes were recorded against the MS4 plan at the June 15 meeting; the public comment in the minutes consisted of one resident’s request for clarification and the manager’s explanation. The board adjourned at 5:16 p.m.
