The Town of Townsend board’s March 10 meeting included several community reports and local announcements.
Kathleen Marsh of the Lake Country Library reported Townsend patrons borrowed 6,149 items in 2025, second-highest in the system; the regional system total was 32,271. Wanda Laste said the Friends of the Fourth’s Spring cash raffle concluded March 7 and that planning for the Fourth of July celebration begins March 11.
Don Solberg of Northern Archers described the club’s plan to expand its practice range and build a pavilion (either 16x24 or 24x24 feet) on a concrete slab near the cemetery; the board asked for a land-use agreement and layout map before taking further action.
Highway Supervisor Bob Habeck announced 5-ton weight limits on town roads effective March 6 that may be in place up to six weeks; he cautioned that gravel roads might not be plowed if the ground is too soft and that special permits will be limited.
The clerk reported miscellaneous correspondence and public-safety-related mail concerns; announcements included hiring a recycle-center attendant, absentee voting dates, the spring election April 7 (7 a.m.–8 p.m.), the next board meeting April 14 at 6 p.m., and the Annual Meeting of the Electors on April 21 at 5 p.m. A member of the public asked about lithium battery disposal and was told Home Depot accepts flat lithium batteries.
