Townsend meeting: fire department updates, Fourth of July planning, library appointment and park pavilion review

The Town of Townsend Board of Supervisors received multiple community updates at its April 14 meeting, including emergency-services activity, holiday planning and recreational proposals.
Fire Department Chief Herlache reported four calls in Townsend during the previous month and announced a training burn at Bass Lake scheduled for Sunday, May 3; he also warned residents about heavy regional rains that have caused road washouts and noted Mosquito Lake Road in town has been repaired. Ambulance and fire department reports were filed with the town.
Wanda Laste, representing the Friends of the Fourth (FOTF), said the committee is working with the town and the county sheriff’s office on the July 4 celebration; raffle tickets and promotional posters should be available by the end of May, and FOTF’s annual meeting is set for Saturday, April 18 at 9:30 a.m. at the fire station. Chair Zeller noted the county plans to feature its Bearcat vehicle in the Fourth of July parade.
Kathleen Marsh announced she has been appointed chair of the County Library Board and said the Lake Country Library has secured two grants and continues to offer programs. Don Solberg of the Northern Lakes Archers said the group has identified three possible sites for a pavilion and invited board members to a site walk on April 28; the existing agreement between the town and Northern Lakes Archers will be reviewed and updated and further discussion was tabled to May.
Supervisor Chuck DeMoulin said residents have expressed interest in a Movie in the Park; he reported a quote of $600 per event from Fox City Flix for equipment and technicians and encouraged partnerships to share the cost. During public comment Chair Zeller reminded residents to contact the highway department about road issues and said the Reiningers have agreed to let the town use one of their fields for parking during July 4 festivities.
The board noted several upcoming meetings and adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
