Town updates: new ambulance on the way, fire training, library leadership change and $12,154.87 park grant

Town staff and community groups provided routine service updates at the May 12 Townsend board meeting.
Steve Harkema reported the ambulance service logged 18 calls in April, said sponsorship forms and raffle donations are available for Weinerfest fundraising, and noted a new ambulance is expected to be delivered by the end of the month. Fire Chief Dawn Herlache reported two calls since the last meeting, described a successful May 3 multi-department training with five other departments, and said a house burn is scheduled for the coming Sunday; she also noted Entry Level/Fire Fighter 1 classes will be offered next spring in Riverview and reminded residents to check the DNR website for current burning restrictions.
Wanda Laste, representing FOTF, said the group will award two scholarships to Wabeno seniors, provided rehab-area refreshments at the May 2 training, and is seeking volunteers and raffle-basket donations for the July 4 event. Kathleen Marsh reported Kathryn Chandler is the new Lake Country Library board president; Friends of the Library plan a Memorial Day Book Sale May 22–23 and summer program details are on the library website.
The minutes also record correspondence: Dama Plumbing & Heating requested a right-of-way agreement to bore under a town road for septic work; Chairperson Zeller drafted an agreement for the landowner to sign and the project was approved. The Oconto County Recreational Committee notified the town that a grant of $12,154.87 to improve Veterans Memorial Park was approved.
