Trappe council approves superintendent contract extension and Little League grant; routine reports filed

The Trappe Town Council on Jan. 7 approved a one-year extension of the town's superintendent services contract with Livingston Septic at the same price. Town Administrator Erin Braband said the current contract expires at the end of January; President Newnam moved to approve the extension and Commissioner Walter Chase seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

The council also approved a reimbursable grant agreement for the Home Run Baker Park softball field after Attorney Lyndsey Ryan said Talbot County had signed the joint-use agreement. Nick Newnam, president of the Little League, told the council the league had reviewed the agreement and was ready to proceed. The council approved the grant agreement by unanimous vote.

Other routine business included approval of the Dec. 3 and Dec. 16, 2025 workshop and council minutes; filing of the clerk's report and the General Fund and Enterprise Fund budgets; and submission of monthly public works and public safety reports for the record. During public comment, Brian Endzel asked how to connect a Piney Hill Road property to town sewer if his septic fails; Attorney Ryan said he would be financially responsible to run the sewer main from the closest endpoint and advised he consult Talbot County Health Department on septic questions. Cheryl Lewis said the fire department received federal grant funding for a new firehouse and is pursuing permits and additional fundraising.
