Weare board authorizes signing ambulance contracts, approves several personnel actions

The Weare Select Board on March 2 authorized the chief to sign standardized ambulance ground-transport contracts, approved the hire of a call firefighter and named an acting police supervisor, and reclassified the town finance director to deputy town administrator.

Assistant Chief Anderson briefed the board on a statewide standardized ground-ambulance contract developed after Senate Bill 245 and a related cost study. Anderson said the standard contract would reimburse participating providers at a multiplier of Medicare rates (transcript references this as 325% of Medicare rate) if the town participates in the study; he also told the board most insurers declined the town’s proposed language changes. “The only company that agreed to the change is WellCents,” Anderson said. Town counsel reviewed the suggested confidentiality language and advised trying for edits but said it was acceptable to proceed if insurers decline to change the boilerplate. Following that advice, the board voted to authorize Chief Anderson to sign service contracts so the town can participate in the standardized arrangement.

On personnel, the board approved hiring Trevor C. Boyer as a call firefighter at $25.75 an hour, start date 03/03/2026 (motion and unanimous vote). The board also appointed Operations Officer Austin McGuire as acting police supervisor (corporal) effective 03/06/2026 at the step-and-incentive rate recorded in the meeting. Finally, the board reclassified Finance Director Beth Rouse to deputy town administrator with duties including finance and human-resources responsibilities, effective April 1; the board asked staff to prepare a formal job description and documentation for the reclassification.

The board also approved manifests and minutes as read during the meeting.
