The Mason County Board of Commissioners on July 7 opened a public hearing on a petition to name the Pretty Creek crossing on Highway 101 the "Senator Tim Sheldon Bridge." Travis Adams, the county administrator, explained this was part of required outreach coordinated with the Washington State Department of Transportation and invited public comment.
Public testimony in favor came from Ken Van Boster of Belfair, who said his family "fully support[s] the naming of the bridge" and called it a "wonderful legacy" that recognizes Sheldon’s community service. Commissioner (speaker 4) offered extended remarks in support, recounting Sheldon's role in securing flood-control improvements and saying, "I can assure you it never would have happened to fix if it had not been for senator Tim Sheldon." The commissioner described Sheldon as having been pivotal in obtaining funds and making the project possible.
Commissioners did not reach a final decision on the naming petition at this meeting. The hearing was continued for more public comment; the record contains references to July 21 and to July 24 as dates for continuation. The county will accept additional public testimony during the continuation and coordinate further outreach with the Washington State Department of Transportation as requested.
