Hillsborough County approves $95M in CDBG-DR projects and $208.4M for homeowner recovery

Hillsborough County commissioners on May 6 approved two major appropriations from federal disaster-recovery funds: $95,000,000 for seven infrastructure projects and $208,400,000 for a single-family housing program intended to help roughly 1,000 owner-occupied homes damaged by recent storms, county communications staff said.

Katie, a Hillsborough County communications and digital media staff member, said the $95 million will fund drainage improvements, ditch and drain restoration, culvert replacements, a power-outage emergency beacon, stormwater pump stations and a low-pressure sewer system. She said the funds are being provided through the county-administered Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program and come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

"The board appropriated $95,000,000 for the rebuilding for tomorrow program, also known as the community development Block Grant Disaster Recovery or CDBG Doctor Project Fund for 7 new infrastructure projects," Katie said. She added that the county also appropriated $208,400,000 for the single-family housing program to assist homeowners impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Officials say the single-family housing program is expected to assist approximately 1,000 homeowners who owned their properties when the storms impacted them. County staff provided a project website for applications and program details.
