Townsend reports: ambulance fundraising, fire activity and library solar savings

Several community service groups updated the board at the Oct. 14 meeting about operations, fundraising and programs.
Janet Opeila reported on ambulance fundraising and grants, saying fundraising is complete and "All fund raising will go to the building fund." She added the ambulance service received an $1,800 WPS grant and members attended refresher training; she also said the Oconto County Fall Prevention Program needs wheelchairs and asked residents to drop donations at the ambulance station.
Fire Chief Dawn Herlache reported three calls in the past month, noted pump testing scheduled for Oct. 29 in Lakewood and said she attended a National Fire Academy weekend focused on incident command strategies and tactics. "There were 3 calls this month," Herlache said.
Wanda Laste of Friends of Townsend Fire said the group's open house was well attended, that the organization is preparing its 2026 budget and pursuing grant opportunities, and that it will take part in the Lions Club Trunk-or-Treat event on Oct. 31. Lakes Country Library Director Kathleen Marsh reported record participation in the summer reading program and said that Northwind Solar finished installing solar panels in July; "there is already financial benefits," she said, pointing to reduced operating costs.
These updates were presented as reports on file; no formal board action followed beyond accepting the reports.
