Helping Hands UP committee accepts volunteer treasurer, delays TAF respite decision and finalizes Meadow Day plans

The Helping Hands UP Committee met via Zoom on May 27, 2026, calling the session to order at 5:32 p.m. and adjourning at 6:14 p.m. The committee approved the minutes from April and recorded several administrative and event-planning updates.
Chair Linda Verrill said she will post a promotional notice for the committee’s “Death and Dying Coach” offering, which a volunteer is drafting. Verrill also will send members a May outreach check-in email and, with Lynne Davidson, will help plan a luncheon for specific volunteers.
The committee reviewed recent service activity and reported two requests for rides, with carpooling arranged to social events. A planned decision on using TAF funds to reimburse respite care was postponed until the next meeting; the transcript does not define the TAF acronym or include a vote on that postponement. Kristen Norton volunteered to serve as the committee’s treasurer and will coordinate the role with Chair Verrill.
On events, the May lunch at Outback Steakhouse drew 17 attendees and the group agreed to keep the restaurant on the rotation; the June lunch will be at Olive Garden. A May 3 trip to Prince George’s Public Playhouse drew about 10 attendees and received mixed reviews. The committee finalized plans for Meadow Day on June 27, including finishing the snag display, preparing handouts (coloring pages and crayons), and staffing the table. Lynne Davidson reported the June 10 Tai Chi class at 11:15 a.m. is full with 12 people signed up and a standby list available.
Council liaison Casey Kelby reported that website updates are pending and reminded members they may upload photos to a shared Google folder. The committee scheduled its next meeting for June 24, 2026, from 5:30–6:30 p.m.
