General manager reports on business circles, real‑estate expo and workforce training in Los Fresnos

Mr. Ross, the CDC general manager, delivered a progress report July 6 on business outreach, workforce training and a planned real‑estate expo.
He said the Los Fresnos Business Circle met at Bonita Flats winery and drew roughly 30 attendees, creating networking opportunities and drawing outside businesses and service providers, including a new internet provider. "We had our Los Fresnos Business Circle at Bonita Flats winery, and we had about 30 attendees," Mr. Ross said (S11). He noted the city is partnering with the Small Business Administration for a monthly Business Ready series and with Workforce Solutions and Brownsville on programs that can supply employees to local businesses.
Mr. Ross described plans for a Los Fresnos Real Estate Expo tentatively scheduled for Oct. 17 at the EMS & Fire Building; the Brownsville–South Padre Island Board of Realtors has formed a task committee to run the event. He also said Texas Southmost College (TSC) will make 18 industry certifications available to Los Fresnos residents and that the city is exploring heavy‑equipment operator certification opportunities.
The manager reported attendance at a Texas Economic Development Council conference and said lessons from that conference are being applied to local workforce and business initiatives. Board members commended the business circles as a spark for local collaboration and urged organizers to continue expanding outreach.
Mr. Ross said the city is still finalizing its website structure to ensure it becomes a durable resource for businesses and residents. The board moved from the report to announcements and administrative items.
