The University Park Mayor and Common Council on May 18 introduced LR 26‑O‑03, an ordinance to amend Chapter 9, Article 1, §9‑104 of the Town Code to raise fees and penalties for parking at electric vehicle (EV) charging station spaces. Councilmember William Sweet presented the fee structure and the motion to introduce the ordinance was seconded by Councilmember Mary Gathercole and carried unanimously.
Under the fee structure discussed and agreed for inclusion in the ordinance, the annual resident permit would increase from $100 to $200, the annual non‑resident permit from $500 to $1,000, UPES staff annual permits would be $200 (equal to the resident rate), and the daily permit would increase from $10 to $20. Director of Public Works Mickey Beall noted the Town’s solar panels and EV chargers are separate electrical systems and cannot offset each other.
The council’s action at the meeting was to introduce the ordinance for consideration; final adoption would require subsequent readings as provided in the Town’s ordinance process.
