The Reinbeck City Council opened a public hearing on May 4 at 6:03 p.m. on two proposed ordinances to update utility service rates and promptly closed the hearing at 6:05 p.m. after receiving no written or oral public comments.
Mayor Jamie Eiffler introduced Ordinance #2026-06OR, to amend water service rates, and Ordinance #2026-07OR, to amend garbage and recycling service rates. Council members were told the proposals would raise water rates by 2% and increase garbage and recycling fees by $0.50 per service.
Council Member Johnson moved that both ordinances be given their first consideration and that the first reading be adopted; the motion was seconded by Council Member Trepp. A roll-call vote followed: Wambold—aye, Pease—aye, Johnson—aye, Trepp—aye, Bueghly—aye. The motion carried.
Council Member Wambold moved to set the ordinances’ second reading for June 1, 2026; the motion, seconded by Pease, passed 5–0. With the second reading scheduled, the council may enact the new rates after the June meeting if it proceeds through the normal ordinance-adoption process.
No agencies, statutes, or fee schedules were cited during the hearing. The proposed changes will affect all city utility customers if adopted; the council did not provide an estimated fiscal impact in the meeting record.
