Open Space Committee hears update on Indian Meadow; property enrolled under Chapter 61B

Chair John Campbell updated the committee on the Indian Meadow property (the former golf course identified as 275 Turnpike Road on the Westborough side), saying the parcel is currently protected under Chapter 61B and therefore has a tax designation tied to continued recreational use.
Campbell told members the current owner — an organization associated with a Hindu temple in Westborough — acquired other nearby property and may be selling the golf-course parcel as part of that activity. Because the Northborough portion of the parcel is enrolled under Chapter 61B the town would receive notice of any intent to change use and the town would have first-refusal rights; the committee has already sent a formal letter to the owner expressing the town’s interest in conservation should the property’s status change.
Campbell said he has attempted recent contact without success but will continue outreach and will call a meeting of the Open Space Committee if the town gets formal notice that the property’s use is changing. No formal motion was made on this agenda item.
