Slinger board discusses Rotary Park upgrades and dog park fundraising

At the May 5 meeting, the Village of Slinger Parks, Recreation & Forestry Board discussed future plans for Rotary Park and several ongoing local park initiatives, including fundraising for a proposed dog park.
Director Tony Dobson showed an overview map of Rotary Park and said upgrading the shelter to allow year-round programming remains a priority. Dobson recommended preserving the green space around the playground and splash pad for multiuse activities and said he would continue to develop options for the board to review in June.
Board member Bob Stuettgen proposed adding putt-putt golf holes in the area formerly used for a haunted house; members discussed the idea and Dobson said it would remain on the June agenda for further study.
In other business, Chairman Jake Bergum asked members to explore Bird City USA recognition and to place the Arboretum on the June agenda. Jennie Stonehouse reported that fundraising for the proposed dog park had reached $30,000 and noted a feature on WTMJ 4 and a favorable local news write-up.
The board will discuss Rotary Park options, the arboretum and dog park fundraising at upcoming meetings. The May meeting adjourned at 6:54 p.m.
