Wadena-Deer Creek board approves hires, resignations, disbursements and donations; adopts calendar

The Wadena-Deer Creek School Board approved a slate of personnel, finance and program items during its April 20, 2026 meeting.
Personnel actions included approval of Kevin Tumberg as Elementary Principal (motion by Julie Bushinger, seconded by Melissa Seelhammer), with the motion recorded as passing 5–0 with Board member Barb Tumberg abstaining. The board also approved hires of Grace Doraska (PreK/ECFE), Madi Stusse (3rd grade), Molly Cordes (kindergarten) and Jordan Cresap (head boys basketball); resignations accepted included Rachel London (elementary special education teacher), Kevin Tumberg (head boys basketball) and Sheila Jackson (elementary library paraprofessional).
On finance the board approved disbursements: vendor check numbers #49636–49794 totaling $333,205.77; credit-card charges (BMO Harris Bank) $9,799.31; and student activity checks #23549–23564 totaling $11,251.32. The board also accepted a list of donations to support technology and Post Prom activities. Notable donations recorded in the minutes: Arvig school partnership for technology and supplies ($2,196.00; transcript contains a formatting typo), Deer Creek Lions Pull Tabs — NASA trip for three students ($4,500.00), and Gappa Oil — Post Prom ($10,000.00), plus a range of smaller local gifts.
The board approved the Bus Driver Collective Bargaining Agreement, adopted the 2026–2027 school calendar (Option A), and approved policy updates as presented. The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 18, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in the Robertson Theatre.
