Chairman Jake Bergum opened discussion of park planning after a board tour of Breuer Park, where members considered a range of small- and medium-scale improvements.
Tony Dobson, Parks, Recreation & Forestry Director, summarized items discussed during the tour, including a new storage shed with restrooms, pollinator gardens, volleyball and basketball courts, additional paved trails, more picnic tables and preserving green space. Dobson told the board the village is planning a parks and open space plan to begin in 2026 to guide future work.
Board members also discussed Rotary Park and possible low-cost additions. Bob Stuettgen suggested adding putt-putt golf and a chess or checkers table to increase family-friendly amenities.
Separately, Dobson said staff are exploring whether a trail in the arboretum could be built in-house and that he has scheduled a meeting with developer Kevin Zimmer to discuss options. The board did not make final approvals on any park capital projects at the meeting; those decisions will follow planning work tied to the 2026 parks and open space plan.
The board also heard event reminders: Dobson said Breuer Family Fun Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 28 at Breuer Park, and Jennie Stonehouse noted the Friends of the Slinger Dog Park would hold an appraisal event and had secured some local news coverage.
