Cecilton council accepts minutes and financials, approves $300 donation; will draft resolution to cancel uncontested elections

The Cecilton Mayor and Council on Jan. 20 approved routine minutes and financials, heard monthly utility reports, and approved a small donation to a local seniors organization.
Member Jennie Brockell moved to accept the Dec. 15, 2025 meeting minutes; Member Craig DeVary seconded and the motion carried. Member Craig DeVary moved to accept the December final financials; Member Brockell seconded and the council carried that motion as well.
Jordan Smith and Heather Perry reviewed the towns wastewater and water treatment work: routine maintenance tasks were completed, three annual sludge reports were submitted, a new blower installed, and staff obtained a quote for temporary storage tanks and SBR tank pumping and motor replacement. Presenters stated both facilities were in compliance for the month of December.
Council Member Sue Katzmire moved, and Member Craig DeVary seconded, a motion to donate $300 to Lower Cecil County Seniors to help offset rising meal costs for limited-income participants; the motion passed. Members discussed elder meal-cost increases and noted the donation could help for a month or two.
On old business the council said it will prepare a formal resolution to avoid holding elections if a race is uncontested, which the council indicated had been the previously approved practice; members also flagged a future agenda item to discuss a proposed personal property tax increase. During public comment, J'yaire McCall introduced herself and said she may be interested in running in the next election. The council adjourned at 7:32 p.m.
