Micah Lee Watson sworn in as Cheverly mayor; council members also take oaths

Micah Lee Watson was sworn in as mayor of Cheverly in a May ceremony in which all six newly elected council members also took their oaths of office.

The oath was administered by Mahasin Al Amin, clerk of the circuit courts. Watson repeated the oath, pledging to “support the Constitution of the United States” and to “execute the office of mayor for the town of Cheverly,” as required by the town charter and state law.

Watson used his remarks to thank family, volunteers and past officials and to lay out a tone for his administration. “I am humbled, and I wanna thank all of you for putting your trust in me,” he said. He listed several predecessors and council colleagues, and said Cheverly—about 6,000 residents, he said—must remain “a place where every individual is welcomed, valued, and feels safe.” Watson closed by asking residents who have served in uniform or volunteered locally to stand as examples of the town’s civic spirit.

The ceremony included the swearing-in of the newly elected council members: Christopher Robert Wade (Ward 1); John Leclerc (Ward 2); Nicole Breiner (Ward 3); David Tansey (Ward 4); Charlie Garces (Ward 5); and Amy Jean Fry (Ward 6). Each repeated the oath pledging support for the Constitution and to execute the duties of their respective offices.

State and local legislators attended and presented official citations. State Senator Malcolm Augustine acknowledged the mayor and council and said the delegation looked forward to partnering with town leaders. “We look forward to working with you and your team,” Augustine said as he presented the citation.

After the formal presentations the group took photographs and gathered for refreshments. Mayor Watson told attendees the town’s regular meeting was scheduled to begin in about 49 minutes, roughly at 8:00 p.m.

The ceremony marked the formal start of the new municipal term and emphasized teamwork and public service as recurring themes for the coming months.
