Kennett council approves city payment of demolition 'dump fees,' seeks clarification on low bid

The Kennett City Council reviewed bids for demolition of three residential properties at 600 Hopper Street, 406 King Street and 709 E. Fourth Street and voted Feb. 3 to have the city pay the associated 'dump fees.'
Bids were presented in two pricing scenarios (contractor pays dump fees; city pays dump fees). With the city paying dump fees, Duncan Truck & Tractor submitted the lowest combined total of $3,770; MMR Excavating LLC and Jack of All Trades submitted higher totals. Council Member Dennis Pelts moved that the city pay the dump fees; Council Member Harry Gaddis seconded the motion and it passed.
Council discussed the significant difference in Duncan Truck & Tractor's low quote and whether bid specifics were relayed correctly; Mayor Crafton suggested postponing further action to the Feb. 17 meeting to clarify details and asked City Clerk Mandy Lewis to place the topic on that agenda.
