Kennett council approves $27,289.18 payment for compost tractor repairs, urges clearer written quotes

Interim City Administrator Steve Rasmussen asked Council Member Dennis Pelts to present the invoice. Pelts told the council he and Council Member Mark Bryant had discussed the work with Legacy Equipment and that the vendor agreed to discount labor costs by 10 percent. After discussion, Council Member Bob Young moved to approve the payment; Council Member Mark Bryant seconded and the motion passed.
Council members emphasized the need for clearer written cost estimates going forward. Members said staff should request written quotes and instruct repair shops to contact city staff before exceeding quoted amounts, so the city can authorize additional work or seek alternative options.
The payment was recorded as coming from the Street Department Equipment budget line. No public comment was made on the item at the meeting.
