Colmar Manor council authorizes stop sign at 42nd Avenue, pending homeowner permission

The Colmar Manor Town Council voted on June 2 to authorize the town administrator to secure written permission from the homeowner at 3604 42nd Avenue to install a stop sign and directed Public Works to install the sign once permission is obtained.

Town Administrator Spielman showed a map and described an intersection where, he said, motorists do not currently stop at a location where the community expects a stoppage. A resident who asked for the sign offered to allow the town to place the sign on private property; the motion before the council would authorize the administrator to negotiate a written agreement with that homeowner and coordinate installation.

Council members discussed whether a future property sale would affect a sign placed on private land and whether a signed agreement would carry through a resale. Spielman said he had already spoken with the town clerk and believed a signed agreement would be sufficient but that he would confirm with the town lawyer and investigate whether the sign would be grandfathered in. The council also asked that nearby residents be notified ahead of installation and that temporary mobile signage be used during the transition.

Allison Page moved to authorize the administrator to secure permission and coordinate installation; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.

What happens next: Town staff will seek written homeowner permission, consult the town lawyer about conveyance/resale implications if necessary, and schedule public-notification and installation steps with Public Works.
