Town Board approves $1.27 million audit and several personnel hires

The Town Board of the Town of Newburgh approved its annual audit of $1,273,420.98 and a series of staffing actions at a May 27 workshop, officials said.

Town Accountant Ronald E. Clum requested approval to hire Helen Nelsson as a full-time provisional Principal Payroll Clerk pending completion of civil-service paperwork; the board approved the appointment at the hourly rate of $27.4023 under the CSEA contract. The appointment was described as provisional and contingent on standard paperwork; the record notes no new physical, drug/alcohol testing, or fingerprinting were required because the candidate is a current employee.

Parks and Recreation Commissioner James Presutti asked the board to approve seasonal recreation aides to work from June 1 to Sept. 6. The board approved the hiring list for seasonal staff. Presutti also recommended Karyn Hudgen‑Gorman for a part-time recreation aide position at the Desmond Center with an anticipated start on or after June 15 at $20.00 per hour; the board approved that hire, contingent on required pre-employment checks. The board approved beginning the hiring process to replace a separate part-time recreation vacancy and approved moving part‑time Laborer Stencil Scott into a full-time laborer role at $25.28 per hour under the CSEA contract.

Town Clerk Lisa Vance Ayers announced the appointment of Oscar Nieves as second deputy town clerk pending paperwork and pre-employment checks; the item did not require a board vote. All motions recorded on personnel and payroll items carried with roll-call votes of 3 yes and 1 absent.
