The Northampton County General Purpose Authority received a bridge-condition update and discussed procurement steps for county insurance services at its July 7 meeting.
On bridges, staff reported cracking in the top slab of Bridge 146 and described the condition as progressive but not an immediate safety emergency. Staff also noted pending utility work on Bridge 124 — Verizon is expected to place a pole and PPL to attach wires — and routine maintenance needs on Bridges 101 and 195. Staff said they will request a time-extension resolution and a formal proposal from the consultant handling inspections so the board can consider any additional funding or extended schedule at the next meeting.
During new business, staff said an RFP for insurance services was issued June 29 with proposals due Aug. 3. The authority is seeking up to three members for a review committee and anticipates a tentative notice of intent to award on Sept. 28, with implementation to follow the award process. Staff asked members to indicate interest in serving on the committee and said committee review will occur in late August or early September.
The chair said the consultant extension and any required resolution or funding request would be placed on the agenda for the next meeting so members could act when full information and cost proposals were available.
No public comments were recorded on either the bridge update or the RFP during the meeting.
