During the public-comment period of the Student Safety and Well-Being Advisory Committee meeting, a local resident reported a recent incident at Patuxent High School and a second speaker shared online resource information for families.
Murdoch, who spoke during the public-comment segment, said the committee should be aware of “what happened at Patuxent High School with a threat on a bathroom stall of a teacher, as well as swastikas, scratched on the door that was painted over.” The committee thanked the commenter and staff suggested using the public email (sswac@albertmontymd.gov) for follow-up.
Another resident, Joseph Cormier, thanked the committee for its work and urged ongoing outreach to educators and families. He pointed attendees to state resources for families and students with special education needs, advising people to check mymarylandthink.maryland.gov for benefits enrollment and to consider Maryland ABLE accounts for students with special needs. “For students with special education needs, please check out the Maryland ABLE accounts,” Cormier said.
No formal investigation or agency report was presented during the meeting; staff asked commenters to provide follow-up information through the committee’s public email so staff can assist or refer the concerns to appropriate departments.
What’s next: The committee did not record an immediate operational response during the meeting; staff invited commenters to follow up by email for further information or assistance.
