During the July 6 meeting the city manager updated the council and public on grants, an upcoming bond election and storm debris policy.
Grants and trails: The city secured a $300,000 Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant to extend the Bomber Trail from Midwest City toward Eagle Lake. Manager said phase 1 funds will cover survey, design and initial construction including a trailhead, and credited grants staff for the work.
Geo Bond priorities: The manager reminded the council of a proposed geo bond election on Aug. 25 and said the $3,000,000 bond would likely allocate about $1,500,000 toward a new fire engine. He also described interest in a brush/rescue combo vehicle (roughly $300,000) that combines wildland‑fire and rescue capabilities and said the city will show mockups to the council in coming weeks. Vehicle replacement was framed by staff as driven by hours of operation and aging models well beyond typical service life.
Storm debris pickup: The manager clarified that the city is not charging residents for storm debris pickup when the material is storm‑related and separated from routine bulk trash; the city will pick up storm debris during bulk trash week or by special arrangement for excessive amounts. Staff emphasized that mixed piles containing household items, older backyard debris or non‑storm materials may be charged if they exceed the standard 4 cubic yards; residents were asked to keep storm debris separate and call sanitation for large volumes.
Staff committed to posting clear guidance on the city website and outreach channels to reduce confusion about billing and collection timelines.
