Snow Library trustees form subcommittee to weigh new-build versus renovation

The Snow Library Board of Trustees on July 7 agreed to form a subcommittee to explore whether the town should build a new library or renovate the existing Snow Library.

"The effort to look at what might be a plan B idea is coming at a good time because the town is undertaking a townwide assessment of all properties," Jamie said, urging the board to use the town's findings rather than duplicate work. Chair Lindsay Goodman said the board should align its list of needs with the town report before pursuing design funding.

Tracy volunteered to serve on the subcommittee and said she would recruit Jerry as well. Trustees discussed timing: the board will not seek town design funds this year but could consider requesting them the following year, so decisions and work by the subcommittee should account for that schedule.

The board asked staff to review any prior building-program materials and the town assessment when it becomes available. Trustees also discussed practical next steps for the subcommittee, including how to operate within open meeting rules and how to post meetings and minutes.

On scheduling, the board tentatively agreed to skip its regular August meeting and to move the standing meeting from the first Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. to the first Monday at 4:30 p.m., starting in October; they decided to keep the September meeting on the first Tuesday because Labor Day falls on the first Monday in September.

The board also conducted routine business, approving minutes from its June 2, 2026 meeting by roll call. The roll-call in the transcript records approval with one or more abstentions but does not clearly list each trustee's individual vote.

The subcommittee will use the town assessment as primary evidence when it begins compiling a prioritized list of building needs and options.
