North 9th Street bridge replacement awarded; full closure and 2027 completion estimated

Staff summarized the Indiana Department of Transportation’s 18‑month letting list and recent awards at the April 15 Technical Transportation Committee meeting.
Doug Poad said the North 9th Street bridge deck replacement project was awarded and the estimated completion date is August 15, 2027; the work will require a full closure of North 9th Street during construction. Poad also reported awards for raised pavement markings and bridge maintenance, and that a bridge maintenance and repair project on State Road 25 is pending award.
Bill Smith added that a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall repair project received a low bid and appears to have been awarded. Poad said signing installation and repair work was awarded and scheduled for completion later in the year. He also noted projects scheduled for April, including the Emergency Vehicle Preemption and ITS traffic management work.
Bill Smith reported the I‑65 project from SR 28 to SR 38 is under contract and will include a change order to add significant work near the north end just south of SR 38. Poad said staff signed and returned a contract to INDOT for the Northern Corridor project on April 2 and are still waiting for INDOT’s response on a transfer request to move funding to the work program.
Impact and next steps: the North 9th Street closure will affect local traffic patterns until the bridge work is complete; staff and INDOT will coordinate detours, scheduling and public notices as awards and contracts are finalized.
