"Miss Steele has a program she's calling a student entrepreneur opportunity," Monaco said, explaining the grant will allow the class to buy a popcorn machine and supplies so students can learn budgeting, purchasing, counting money and basic sales skills during lunch or after school.
Monaco said the association has awarded scholarships for 30 years and began teacher grants six years ago to support classroom‑level innovations that lack other funding. He asked the district treasurer to ensure the grant funds are spent during the current school year.
Board members congratulated Steele and invited a photograph; no district appropriation was requested during the presentation. The association's grants are funded separately and administered by the retired teachers group.
