Assembly approves placing electric utility revenue bond for Skow Bay generator on October ballot

The Petersburg Borough Assembly voted 5-0 to place an electric utility revenue bond question on the Oct. 6 ballot to cover cost increases for the Skow Bay standby generator project.
On July 6 the Petersburg Borough Assembly approved Ordinance 20-26-13 to authorize electric utility revenue bonds to cover construction cost increases for the Skow Bay standby generator project and to submit the question to borough voters on Oct. 6, 2026.
Member Stan Greger moved and Member Newman seconded the motion to approve the ordinance on second reading. The clerk recorded a unanimous 5-0 roll-call vote. Mayor Lynn announced the item would be placed on the ballot.
Utility staff had explained that construction cost increases created a budget shortfall for the standby generator project. If the ordinance proceeds through the remaining required readings and voter approval, bond proceeds would fund completion of the project and related grid tie and mechanical work contingent on voter authorization.
Next steps: The question will appear on the local ballot on Oct. 6, 2026, if the assembly completes the remaining procedural steps and the ordinance remains in force for placement on the ballot.
