Jason (the nominator) presented Leslie Irvin for vice chair, citing her background as a parent, community member and educator. Leslie Irvin accepted the nomination; a motion to elect her as vice chair was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff presented a shortened mission that committee member Emily read aloud: "The mission of the Calvert Student Safety and Well‑being Advisory Committee is to enhance the safety, security, and overall well‑being of students and staff within CCPS." Committee members debated whether the document should be labeled a mission or a vision and recommended trimming language; members agreed the numbered list of outcomes was not intended to convey ranking.
The committee outlined five work phases: formation/purpose/brainstorming; identifying issues and data sources; issuing a data assessment; defining measurable short‑ and long‑term goals; and developing recommendations culminating in a final report. The body voted to adopt the condensed mission and asked staff to circulate revisions before the December meeting for formal adoption.
Officials said the committee will produce quarterly reports for the public and make minutes available. Staff also committed to circulate a scheduling poll to balance member availability with public access, including the possibility of one quarterly evening meeting to encourage community participation.
Next steps: staff will solicit written language revisions from members between meetings, assemble the suggested edits into a working document and return with a recommended vision statement at the December meeting.
