The superintendent told the Waterloo Local School District board that Youth Intensive Services notified the district it would stop providing free on-site services effective April 18, citing delays in state Medicaid payments. "Molly Powers has been ... fantastic, and she's gonna be the one impacted by this change," the superintendent said, noting the loss will affect students and families who used the service.
The superintendent said the district has other relationships with Children’s Management (Children’s Advantage) and Hazel Health and will continue to pursue ways to provide services at no cost. "We do recognize that this development is going to cause some anxiety among our students and our families," the superintendent said.
Board members and administrators described the role the provider played in addressing student mental-health and social-emotional issues, crediting the on-site work with improving classroom participation. The superintendent said the district will look for replacement options and coordinate with existing partners but did not offer a timeline for restoring the same services or confirm whether the provider’s staff (including Molly Powers) will be rehired by another agency.
The superintendent framed the provider’s exit as tied to state-level Medicaid payment delays; the board did not vote on a policy change at the meeting. Next steps include outreach to alternative vendors and notifying families about available supports. The district asked board members and staff to alert the superintendent if they identify any other potential providers or concerns before the change takes effect.
