Ravena trustees approve modest handbook amendments on bereavement and discipline

The Ravena Village Board approved a set of amendments to the employee handbook July 7 aimed at clarifying bereavement leave and the disciplinary progression.
Trustee Nancy Moore moved to add "grandparent-in-law" to the list of relatives eligible for one day of bereavement leave, to change the disciplinary sequence to allow a verbal warning followed by one written warning (rather than two), and to remove the phrase "formal discussion" from Section 2 and delete the subsequent Section 3. Moore said the changes reflect practical experience using the handbook over the past year and will make discipline procedures smoother.
The motions were seconded and approved without extended debate. The board indicated the amendments will be distributed as replacement pages rather than issuing an entirely new handbook.
Trustee Nancy Moore said staff member Gabby will update the handbook pages once administrative details, including payroll timing, are confirmed. The board confirmed the changes apply to standard disciplinary steps, not to distinct or unrelated violations that would be handled separately.
The board did not record any formal amendments to the proposed handbook changes during the meeting. The updated pages will be presented to employees once finalized.
