Council members approved using remaining LPPI grant funds and town accommodation funds to purchase refrigeration for the Friendsville Community Park concession stand.
At the Sept. 23 meeting, Terry Spear summarized equipment specifications and prices for the concession stand and said two deep-fryer prices were not included in his initial email; the full equipment total quoted at the meeting was $14,687.00. Wanda Guard said she had contacted Tiffany DePaoli at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) about allowable uses of grant funds.
According to the minutes, Tiffany DePaoli (DNR) advised that the town can utilize LPPI grant funds on appliances and recommended purchasing the refrigerator and freezer together so the remaining LPPI balance would be spent and not reverted. The council approved a motion (Motion #5) to use the remaining LPPI funds of $4,920.10 and to cover the difference in cost with accommodation funds to purchase the refrigerator and freezer. The motion was moved by Council member Sheryl MacLane and seconded by Council member Edward Kelley; vote 6 in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstentions.
The purchase decision follows DNR guidance and is intended to make use of the remaining LPPI award while addressing concession-stand needs. The minutes note that the purchase of the freezer and refrigerator will expend the remainder of the LPPI award.
