The Friendsville council on July 15 reviewed multiple community improvement projects and accepted grants and project sequencing to accommodate upcoming events.
Mayor Spencer R. Schlosnagle said Cornerstone Construction LLC and contractor crews will begin site work on the concession stand and ADA restroom; the council voted to allow construction to proceed but to delay trenching for sewer and electrical lines through the Community Park until after Friendsville Days (Motion #6). The motion was moved by Council member Sheryl MacLane, seconded by Council member James Hook, and passed 6–0.
The council also approved moving forward with a Community Legacy grant-funded exterior improvement project for the Friends Family Museum and authorized soliciting sealed quotes for the $25,000 award contingent on receiving Garrett County matching funds (Motion #7). That motion (Humberson/Kelley) carried 6–0.
Separately, the council received notice that the Maryland Board of Public Works approved a $241,604 grant for Community Park restroom and electrical room renovations; the grant recipient was the Town of Friendsville and the council indicated the project would be addressed in spring 2025.
Other park-related items included confirmation that Central Garrett Baseball League will donate $250 toward new locks and continued work to recover tree-removal costs from responsible parties. No additional appropriations were made at the July 15 meeting.
