Robbins board approves warrants, speed‑bump project and janitorial contracts; tables community‑garden lease

The Village of Robbins Mayor and Board of Trustees voted July 27 to approve a series of routine expenditures and service contracts and to delay action on a proposed community garden lease.
Trustee George Brewton moved and Trustee Gregory N. Jackson seconded acceptance of the July 23 warrant list for $18,987.04; the board voted unanimously (Dyson, Maxey, Brewton, Robinson, Jackson, Collier) to approve the expenditures. The board later approved a $4,000 bid to install speed bumps on Lydia (moved by Brewton, seconded by Collier) and a resolution appointing the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) authorized agent for the village (moved by Trustee David R. Dyson, seconded by Trustee Ernest Maxey Jr.).
Trustee Tiffany S. Robinson moved and Trustee Michael Collier Sr. seconded approval of two janitorial contracts: Tuff Brooms Cleaning Service to clean Village Hall for $12,000 per year and Freeman Cleaning LLC to clean the police department, including waxing and buffing floors, for $13,000 per year. Contractors were instructed to obtain village business licenses. All three votes were recorded by roll call as unanimous: Dyson, Maxey, Brewton, Robinson, Jackson and Collier.
Trustee George Brewton also moved (seconded by Trustee Michael Collier Sr.) to table consideration of a lease agreement and companion resolution between the village and Hudson Academy Foundation for a community garden so the village attorney can review the document. The motion to table carried on a roll call vote with the same unanimous ayes.
Separately, Mayor Darren E. Bryant provided background before Village Clerk Sharon Dyson administered the oath to Nicless Malley as deputy chief of the Robbins Fire Department; the swearing was presented as a ceremonial appointment rather than a formal board vote.
The meeting ended with a parade‑route discussion in which Trustee Ernest Maxey Jr. voted against the proposed armory endpoint and suggested returning along 139th to the fairgrounds; the board approved the route by majority recorded in the minutes. The board adjourned at 8:56 p.m.
