Robbins trustees urge residents to pay water bills; public works, property and building initiatives discussed

At the Aug. 24 meeting of the Village of Robbins, Trustee Michael Collier told residents the village will resume water disconnections after the April 1, 2021 restriction was lifted and urged customers to arrange payments if they are behind. "Please come in and work out a payment arrangement if necessary," Collier said, noting disconnections will be in effect soon.

Trustee Collier commended the Public Works Department for progress made with minimal staff and noted Supervisor Melvin Wells submitted a four‑page update. Collier said crews have cleared debris (two dumpsters full) and encouraged residents to report concerns to Village Hall.

Trustee George Brewton said he is scheduling a working Public Property meeting on Sept. 21, 2021 to inspect village properties and develop an action plan. Trustee David R. Dyson described a proposed building‑department initiative to help residents winterize and make minor home repairs, and said he had discussed potential assistance with a representative from Congressman Bobby Rush's office.

During public comment Louis Henderson asked about purchasing three vacant lots and questioned a $240 inspection fee per parcel; Administrator Todd Stroger directed Henderson to meet after the meeting to discuss the fee and Brewton said current law requires the fee as assessed.

No formal votes altered water‑billing policy at the meeting; the board recorded the described operational updates and scheduled committee follow‑up.
