Robbins trustees move to update curfew rules and refer loitering ordinance to committee

Trustee Tiffany S. Robinson reported to the Village of Robbins Board of Trustees on Aug. 24, 2021, that the Public Safety committee will ask the village attorney to prepare an update to the curfew ordinance (cited as '15-100') that would be enforced with a $100 fine for minors found in violation. "We don't have an ordinance on loitering and need to consider creating an ordinance," Robinson said, and she told trustees she will return the matter to the License and Ordinance committee for formal drafting.
Robinson also said the committee is identifying five locations for Flock license‑reader cameras to be sited around the village and that the police department remains without a permanent Police Chief. She noted the police station and the Park District are designated cooling stations for residents during hot weather.
Trustees did not vote on any ordinance language at the meeting. Several residents asked clarifying questions during public comment: Thelma Ellis asked what the curfew ordinance specifies; Mr. Harper asked whether a loitering ordinance would apply to all ages. Robinson answered that the committee will consider scope and age applicability as part of the drafting process.
No effective dates or enforcement procedures beyond the $100 fine reference were adopted at the meeting; Robinson said the attorney's draft and any proposed ordinance will return to the board for further consideration.
